Jacqueline Fernandez grew up in Bahrain, Manama. She is Sri Lankan and comes from a multiethnic background. The father of Jacqueline's Elroy Fernandez hails from Sri Lanka (Sinhalese - Catholic)and her mother Kim is a Malaysian. Her brothers are elder and two younger brothers. Her parents relocated to Bahrain in 1980s due to the Lankan turmoil and her birth and education were in Bahrain. She received a scholarship to attend an undergraduate program at the University of Sydney in Sydney Australia, after completing her studies in Bahrain. An avid lover of different cultures and different languages, she enrolled in Berlitz Language School in which she learned Spanish as well as enhancing her French as well as Arabic. In 2006, she was crowned the Miss Sri Lanka for Miss Universe 2006 in March, 2006. She also participated in Miss Universe 2006. In 2006, she took home the Miss Sri Lanka title. Following that, she stepped into the world of television, hosting a program on Sri Lankan businesses called Lanka Business Report. Padukone was the daughter of the badminton player Prakash Padukone, was born in Copenhagen and was raised in Bangalore. When she was a teenager she competed at national-level badminton competitions, but quit the sport to become an artist. Padukone has Mangalorean roots and is fluent in Konkani as her primary language. Padukone is a village located situated in Kundapura Taluk located in Udupi in Karnataka State of India is where her ancestry is derived from. Prakash Padukone was a badminton legend who retired in the late 1980s. Her mother, who worked for a travel agency also comes from the village.
